Woodley United U8 Spitfires v Woodley United U8 Cyclones
Berkshire Youth Development League
Cyclones, had a great game of superb passing and pushing forward as a team with some great saves being performed by their goal keeper, showing they are continuing to improve week in week out.
Before the game started Leo was presented with the captains armband and a challenge was set for the players with the key aim being to perform controlled passes to each other. We also discussed the positions on the pitch using the whiteboard, we split the pitch into four boxes and the players identified which boxes each position can run in.
From the start of the match the Spitfires were on the attack putting pressure on the Cyclones however they kept their composure and were passing the ball around nicely. The Spitfires were also extremely well organised which made the game really entertaining to watch. Corey in goal made a number of fantastic saves and got a round of applause for the spectators of both teams. However in the end the quality of the Spitfires attack was just too much. Archie, Lucas, Gabriel & Leo were passing the ball really well throughout the game and were pushing up the pitch whilst the Spitfires were set up for the counter attack with a lone striker holding his position.
At half time we discussed the things which the team were doing really well and the boys identified that the passing was working very well and that they were enjoying the game. We quickly went through the positions again and the boxes each player can go in.
The second half started and the players were in different positions however it was funny to see how they slowly fell into the positions they tend to be more suited to with Charlie falling back into defence, Gabriel and Leo interchanging between midfield and striker. The team were playing the second half really positively with passes and throw ins always going in the direction of the Spitfires goal. There was one moment where Charlie did an amazing tackle in defence looked up and saw Leo who then put a lovely through ball to Gabriel who was then in on goal. Unfortunately the ball was running a little too fast but it was really great to watch and just highlighted the talent in the team and their potential. Throughout the second half the Spitfires were relentless but the defending on show from Charlie with support from Lucas and Archie was awesome.
Having not seen the team play for the last month I have been amazed by the improvement in the team and am excited to see them continue to improve.
Player of the match went to Corey in goal for making save after save throughout a very challenging game.
Effort award was presented by out team captain Leo who chose Charlie for his defending during the match.
