Playing their first match at home in over two months, a competitive game ended in defeat and turned on injuries to two United players.

Wanderers pacy forward line was a threat early in the game but the goalkeeping of the returning Sophie Cheadle and defensive play of Charlie Evans kept the game scoreless while Sarah Lawrence and Sophie Melton were Woodley’s threat without causing visiting keeper Amber Taylor any problems.

The visitors opened the scoring in the thirty eighth minute when Potter broke down her left wing before putting a low cross into the hosts’ penalty area where the ball was met by Axelle Courlander to score from close range.

The forty fourth minute saw United’s centre back Hollie Barnfield be substituted and a rearrange defence needed to see the team to half time. However, in the first minute of stoppage time Woodley failed on a number of occasions to safely clear a corner before the ball fell to Potter to double the visitors’ lead.

The opening quarter hour of the second half was in keeping with the first, in it being competitive, but the game was decided in the sixty second minute when Cheadle fell to the ground when attempting to gather the ball and while lying injured Potter scored her second goal of the match. Cheadle’s injury saw her substituted and midfielder Lucy Giles take over in goal.

Giles made one fine save pushing the ball away for a corner kick while twice reacting quickest and clearing the ball from out side her penalty area, one kick finding Lawrence on the wing only when well positioned only to be flagged off side.

Woodley’s consolation came in the eight first minute when substitute May Hamblin poke the ball over Taylor following a cross from Chloe Griffiths that eluded Wycombe’s defenders.
