On a bitterly cold evening United got off to the best possible start taking the lead in the fourth minute. A ball played into the hosts penalty area fell free following Ramon Rose and Matteo Giacobbe both jumping for and as it bounced upward Yri Cardoso headed it into an unguarded net for his first goal for the club.
Woodley was unable to build upon this lead with the game levelled in the twenty third minute with Ricardo Fraser scoring from penalty spot following a foul by Luke Van Spall. United responded well forcing the hosts to clear of their goal line and Cardoso being adjudged offside following a defence splitting pass from Mackenzie Creech.
With the game entering first half stoppage time Spartans took the lead when Woodley failed to clear a corner that allowed Juyin Okuwayeni to score from close range.
The second half saw Woodley predominate in attack with Rose and Mo Adam causing problems with their pace on both flanks. Home goalkeeper Seth Hutchinson deny Giacobbe catching a shot at the second attempt in the fifty seventh minute which was followed shortly afterwards with Kieran Maylen heading a corner kick over the crossbar. Hutchinson dealt with a Dylan Clark free while the home team successfully defended a series of United corners as the match entered the last fifteen minutes.
As the half was coming to and end and with six minutes added time to play, Spartans started to defend in greater number to deny the visitors while hitting Woodley on the counter attack in the fourth minute of stoppage time when Jean-Luc Aikpinnou sealed the points beating Jake Simpson in a one on one situation.
